UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO COLLEGE OF LAW
INTERNATIONAL LAW SYMPOSIA

The Fourth Annual University of Idaho International Law Symposium, "Indigenous Peoples and International Law: Lands, Liberties and Legacies" continues the tradition of bringing together a select group of international law scholars for an intimate and collegial exchange around a topic of international law of unique relevance to Idaho. This year’s symposium focuses on the status and rights of indigenous peoples under international law.

The Third Annual University of Idaho International Law Symposium continues the tradition of bringing together a select group of International Law scholars for an intimate and collegial exchange. This year’s symposium takes its inspiration from a series of lectures given by Harvard International Law Professor Manley O. Hudson at the University of Idaho in 1931, later published as the classic Progress in International Organization.

The 2nd Annual symposium, “Post-Conflict Justice: From Malmédy to Halabja,” continued the program’s success. Featured presenters included the Hon. Pierre-Richard Prosper, U.S. Ambassador for War Crimes, along with experts from Canada, Brazil, Germany and Iraq. Three College of Law students made panel presentations. The papers from the symposium will be published in a symposium edition of the Michigan State University – DCL Journal of International Law.

The inaugural symposium, “Transboundary Harms in the 21st Century: Lessons from the Trail Smelter Arbitration,” attracted more than twenty International Law scholars for a series of panel discussions. Two of the world’s leading commentators and practitioners of International Environmental Law attended and were joined by scholars from the U.S., Canada and Germany. Two College of Law students made panel presentations and a number of other students attended the intimate and collegial event.
