Library Catalog WebVoyáge, the law library's web-based catalog, provides access to a combined catalog with the ability to search the holdings for the Law Library, the UI Main Library, North Idaho College, Lewis and Clark State College, Gonzaga University, Whitworth College, and the Community Colleges of Spokane. Patrons can view their check-out records, place items on hold, and renew items through the catalog. The Reserve collection and e-reserve collection of these libraries can also be searched through WebVoyáge.

Other Catalogs Through the law library's home page, patrons can access a national catalog known as WorldCat and the catalogs of most of the major libraries in the Pacific Northwest, including the University of Washington and Washington State University. Access The Law Library is open to anyone having a need to use the collection. Materials from the collection may be checked out by any student, faculty person or member of the general public, within the limitations placed on that particular item and pursuant to Law Library procedures.
The doors to the library are never locked. Law students may remain in the library after the circulation desk closes even though the law building is closed. When the building is locked, law students use their Vandal Card to enter the building. Card key locks are installed at the North East and West entrances.

Seating The library has seating for the entire student body. Seating varies from study tables located throughout the library to carrels on the Top Floor and the Ground Floor of the library.
Reserved seating is allowed only at carrels. Although the Student Bar Association assigns carrels to students in a lottery, they are the property of the College of Law and are available for public use. When not occupied by the assigned student, a carrel may be used by anyone doing legal research. Visitors should move elsewhere when the person to whom the carrel is assigned appears.

Services Circulation No registration is required to use the library collection on site. Library users wishing to check out books, tapes, and videos must have a library card. University of Idaho faculty, staff, and students use their Vandal Card as their library card. Idaho residents and WSU students, faculty and staff may apply for guest library cards at the Circulation/Reserve Desk. Applicants must have picture identification.
Members of WIN (Washington-Idaho network) may use their home library's card to borrow library materials but do not have access to UI-licensed electronic resources or other UI library-specific services. Washington State University faculty, staff, and students are invited to use the UI library under the terms of a reciprocal agreement between the two institutions. To obtain a borrower card, apply at the UI Law Library Circulation Desk with your WSU identification.
Guest cards are available to Idaho residents. Guests may borrow materials but do not have access to UI-licensed electronic resources nor other library-specific services. Idaho residents younger than 18 years of age may gain borrowing privileges as subordinates to a parent's card. The parent must accompany the child to get a parent-child card. The child will have guest privileges. Persons lacking borrowers cards are welcome to use the UI Library for educational or research purposes.

Generally, cardholders can borrow an unlimited number of items. Loan periods vary depending on patron status and type of materials borrowed.

Items marked "in library use only" can be checked out to law faculty offices and law student carrels on a short-term basis. Non-law patrons can place an in-library use item on the hold shelf at the circulation desk.
Reserve materials have short check-out periods because they are in high demand. Most materials have a three-hour check-out period. Reserve materials include course materials, nutshells, course outlines, hornbooks, study aids, Idaho and Washington practice materials, and some legal directories.

Reference Assistance Reference librarians are on duty from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday during the academic session.
Reference librarians provide reference service, instruction in the use of library resources for groups and individuals and teach the research portion of Legal Research & Writing. The reference librarians are also available to faculty and students for research consultations by appointment.

Study Rooms Law students are allowed to use Rooms 217, 218, and 219 for studying and conferences. Any law student can use these rooms, but an individual may be asked to leave if a study group has reserved the room.
These rooms may also be scheduled for Career Services interviews, and although every effort will be made to accommodate study groups, interviews take precedence over groups for use of the rooms.
Study groups may reserve the use of Rooms 217-219 using COLORS on the College of Law Intranet. Groups may sign up for a maximum of four hours per day. Individual students are not allowed to reserve study rooms. There is a 15-minute grace period for occupancy before the room is forfeited.

Student Carrels The Student Bar Association runs a lottery every spring and fall to determine carrel assignments. Carrels are located on the Ground Floor and Top Floor of the library.
Posters, photographs, etc. are permitted only on the inside of carrels. Personal possessions left unattended at carrels are left at the student's own risk. Carrels may not be moved from their present location. Extension cords are not permitted. File cabinets are permitted only in the kneehole of the carrel. All aisles and corridors must be kept open to conform to safety and disability access requirements.

Computer Lab There is one computer lab maintained by Information Technology Services (ITS) on the Ground Floor of the Law Library. Users must be associated with the University of Idaho and have a Novell login and password.

Printers There is one printer in the Law Library computer lab. Paper and toner for the printer are located behind the circulation desk. Students printing to the lab printer use their paper quota included with their registration. To purchase more paper, visit the IT support site (www.support.uidaho.edu).

Photocopiers The Law Library has two photocopy machines located in the Circulation lobby. The machines can be operated with the user's Vandal card, a photocopy card purchased at the Circulation desk, or with a cash auditron. The library can add money to Vandal cards and photocopy cards.

Microfiche Readers There is one microfiche reader on the Law Library's main floor. Patrons printing microfiche images can pick up their copies at the Circulation Desk.

Lost & Found The lost and found is located at the Circulation Desk. Items are sent to the university lost and found as space is needed and at the end of every semester.

Telephones There are two phones for campus and local calls. One is in the student lounge on the Ground Floor. The other is in the hall adjacent to Room 103. Library phones are not available for student or patron use.

Special Collections Current Idaho Materials The library houses multiple copies of the Idaho Code, The Idaho Administrative Code (IDAPA), Idaho Reports, the Idaho Digest, and many Idaho State Bar CLE's. Some early Idaho materials are in the rare book collection in the Reference Office. The library also holds superseded editions of the Idaho Code. The library holds some Idaho Legislative History materials.

Idaho Brief Bank The library houses briefs and transcripts from the Idaho Supreme Court and the Idaho Court of Appeals. This collection is kept in secure storage and is available Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Briefs may be used within the library only, and may not be stored at carrels. There is a Briefs and Records Locater database available through the library home page at http://www.law.uidaho.edu/library/briefs.asp.

Clagett Collection The Clagett Collection consists of materials collected by Fred and Dorothy Clagett to support their research on the life and times of William H. Clagett, the president of Idaho's Constitutional Convention in 1889. The Clagett Collection contains many unique books on Western history and is available for researchers 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The collection is in-library use only.
