Professor Monica Schurtman joined the College of Law faculty in 2000. She currently teaches in the College's Legal Aid Clinic, and supervises students working on cases involving Nez Perce tribal clients, immigration, and international human rights. Previous positions included clinical professor and Director of the International Human Rights Clinic at St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas,legal counsel to the Human Rights Watch Arms Division, staff attorney with the Legal Aid Society of New York, as well as director of the Central American Refugee Program in New York City.

Professor Schurtman has written on a variety of subjects, including landmines, laser weapons, humanitarian law, and human rights issues in the Americas. She received a J.D. from New York University School of Law and her B.A. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
