Current Students

All students who use the Career Development Office (CDO) and/or participate in the on-campus recruitment program must complete a Registration and Consent form, which will be filed in the office. These release forms are valid for the academic year and students will need to complete a new registration form each fall.

Reference Library
The CDO contains a reference library which includes books and handouts to help students through the employment search process. Reference books are catalogued through the Law Library and may be checked out from the CDO. The office compiles information on Idaho legal employers, which is available in print form. Directories of legal employers in Washington, Oregon, Utah and Arizona are also available.

Student Recruitment
The office helps employers and students with their employment needs at all times during the year. Preparation for recruiting begins in the summer before students return to school in August. Some employers use the fall months to seek employees to fill their employment needs for the following year, and thus, interview students with that goal in mind

Employers who recruit on an annual basis often assign their application deadlines early in the fall semester. Other employers who participate in the program will not visit the campus to conduct their interviews, but will choose instead to have students submit application materials directly to them. This manner of finding employment is as important as the on-campus interview method and students need to give it just as much consideration.

To meet these early deadlines, students are encouraged to review and update/edit their application materials before they return to campus in the fall. This early planning will help them meet the deadlines in spite of a busy class and activity schedule. If students have not pulled together a resume, nor attempted to write a cover letter-then it is even more important that they begin early. No application should ever be sent ot an empoyer without these two very important pieces of information! It is crucial that they be of high quality and project you in a professional manner.

Students are asked to inform the Career Develpment Office of all accepted offers of employment, regardless of how the lead was obtained. Periodically, we ask students to provide certain information and complete a questionnaire about their employment as well as employment and salary information after graduation. This information is useful in many ways, but primarily it helps to determine trends, and serves as a guide for subsequent students when they are looking at job offers.

Individual Counseling and Assistance
Students are encouraged to submit their resumes and cover letters to the Career Development Office for review. Students can also make appointments to discuss individual concerns and address questions specifically related to their individual career search. Our goal is to make each student's employment exploration as positive as possible and it is through a combination of individual attention, student self-awareness, and dedication to the search process that results in students accomplishing their employment goals.

Campus On-campus Interview (OCI) Program
Employers who announce openings are invited to provide descriptive materials about their office or other information they believe would be helpful to applicants. Information from participating employers will be available in the Career Development Office and will relate the types of positions available, minimum qualifications and application procedures.  Check the Career Development job postings on the Intranet frequently as new announcements arrive sporadically. When employers interview on campus, the Career Development Office facilitates the schedule with students. Students will begin signing up for campus interviews as early as the first week of September. Employers who travel to campus like to read resumes prior to meeting applicants and, therefore, request receipt of materials in advance of the interview date.

All application deadlines that are processed through the Career Development Office are due at 11:00 a.m. on the date listed. Be sure to review the employment announcement to confirm that your application packet contains everything the employer requested and that your materials are complete. Please sign your cover letters.

Job Boards
All employment announcements received by the Career Develpment Office will be posted on the Intranet (See "Job Postings"). The announcements will remain posted until the application deadline has passed. If there is no deadline, the job will remain posted for three months.

Job Posting Binders
Any additional information regarding the employment announcements will be located in the office in "the Blue Binders". The information is filed based on the state in which the job is located. This information will stay in the notebooks until the application deadline has expired.
