Employers and Employer Resources

Our Career Development Office works to match the educational and experential backgrounds of our students to employers' specific needs. It is our policy to develop long-term relationships with employers so that we better understand the unique nature of their practices and the special qualifications and skills they seek in law clerks and associates.

In addition to arranging interviews and otherwise assisting students, the Career Development Office works directly with employers and our alumni to arrange campus presentations. Employers and guest speakers address relevant issues relating to law employment and professionalism. These discussions provide a means for students to network with employers and obtain valuable information that is very useful as students work to define and focus on their career goals and employment searches. Through these presentations students gain an understanding of prospective employers' concerns and expectations.

Posting an Employment Announcement
If you are interested in posting a position with us, please download our Recruiting Announcement and Policy of Non-Discrimination and fax the completed forms to us (208-885-5709).

On Campus Interviews
We give employers a cost-effective and efficient way to interview as many qualified students as possible during a concentrated time period. To hasten the selection process of qualified students, employers receive resumes in advance of their visits. To arrange for an On Campus Interview, just call our office or download and complete the Recruiting Announcement and Policy of Non-Discrimination and fax them to us.

Resume Forwarding
We offer an excellent and efficient way for employers to collect resumes and announce a position opening. For your convenience, we will post the job descriptions, collect the application packets, and forward them directly to the employers. Although employers may choose to have students contact them directly, resume forwarding gives employers the added advantage of receiving all applications at one time, enabling them to consider candidates in advance of a campus visit.

Contract Work Employment Listings
Our contract work listing service is designed to assist employers who want to hire students or graduates to perform legal research. This service reduces costs to employers who periodically need temporary experienced law clerks for short or long-term projects.

Current and Up-to-Date Directories
We maintain all employer files and directories to assist students in networking with prospective employers. We encourage all employers to update their specific hiring or contact information on an annual basis or when they post employment announcements.

Employment Statistics
Each year our law school conducts an Employment Survey of our current year graduates. Results from the survey are compiled into broad based group statistics that are used by organizations such as the American Bar Association (ABA), American Association of Law Schools (AALS) and the National Association of Law Placement (NALP).

While many of our graduates stay in Idaho and the Northwest, our alumni hold positions throughout the United States and several foreign countries. Employment of our alumni covers a wide spectrum of practice areas in firms, public service organizations, prosecutor's and criminal defender's offices, and corporate law offices. University of Idaho College of Law alumni also sit on several state and federal benches. Employment figures reflect a very marketable law degree as well as a desire to work outside the traditional law firm practice. New opportunities for graduates helped boost employment figures overall including such non-traditional areas as accounting firms, insurance companies, financial planning institutions, human resources, and risk management.
