Welcome Class of 2011!

Congratulations! I am excited and pleased that you are one of the few chosen to be part of the Class of 2011. This page will serve as the central location for information and will undergo changes in content over the rest of the Spring and Summer so check back often.

  1. New Student Orientation.  Orientation will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19th and run through 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 22nd.  Attendance is mandatory.  All students must attend each day of the orientation program.  Dress is business casual (i.e. no jeans, hats, or sneakers) because you will be having significant interactions with attorneys and judges from throughout the Northwest.  A draft agenda is available here (Updated 8-15-08).
  2. July Packet.  The July Packet has been mailed.  Please check your mailboxes!  It contains your section assignments and other important information that will prepare you for your transition to the University of Idaho College of Law.  Please read the enclosed materials very carefully.
  3. Law Student Handbook.  This document contains important information such as the University of Idaho College of Law Honor Code, Rules and Information, Student Services, and Academic Standards, Policies and Procedures.  On the first day of Orientation, you will be required to sign a formal statement acknowledging that you have read the Honor Code and agree to be bound by the Honor Code during your law school career.
  4. Fall 2008 DRAFT Schedule This is the DRAFT schedule for information purposes only.  It is possible that changes could happen through the first few weeks of school, but this will give you an idea of what to expect.  Classes begin Monday, August 25, 2008.
  5. Registration & Class Sections. We will pre-register you for all your Fall classes in mid-July.  You will be sent a packet of information, including class schedules and the booklist.  Student Accounts will begin mailing bill and fee payment instructions once your registration is active. Fees for the 2008-2009 Academic year are $10,882 /per year for Idaho residents and $20,962 /per year for Non-Idaho residents.  If you have questions about your billing statement or feel there is an error, contact Student Accounts at (208) 885-7447 or via e-mail at acctrec@uidaho.edu
Students cannot choose their section.  The one exception is for students whose spouses or partners are also in the first-year class. Students in that situation may choose whether they want to be in the same or different sections, but not the specific section.
  6. VandalMail.  PLEASE set up your Idaho email address sooner rather than later.  This will be the ONLY email address used by University departments outside the College of Law, e.g. Financial Aid, throughout the summer.  Once school begins it will be the only email address used for ALL University communication (including the College of Law).
  7. VandalWeb.  This is your one stop to check your class schedule, update your address, set up direct deposit of your financial aid, and a whole lot more.  You will become VERY familiar with this.
  8. 2008-2009 University Academic Planning Calendar
  9. Housing. If you have not yet secured housing in Moscow or the surrounding area, we strongly urge you to do so as early as possible. Please visit our "Housing Information" page for on & off campus housing resources.  Housing opportunities specifically for law students will be posted to the Yahoo! Group.  Back by popular demand, there are a number of on-campus apartments available in a "law cluster."  This places law students together, either as roommates or as neighbors, in a cluster in the South Hill Apartments.
  10. Parking Permits.  Parking permits for the 2008-2009 academic year will go on sale ONLINE beginning June 26, 2008 at 9AM.  Parking permits will go on sale in the Parking Office beginning July 10, 2008 at 9AM.
  11. Outside Scholarship Opportunities.   Nancy Luebbert, Director of Academic Support, has a VERY big list of outside scholarship opportunities on her Academic Support website.  Other highlights include the Other Opportunities and Resource Library pages.
  12. Yahoo!Group for Admitted Students. All admitted students will be invited to join this exclusive group beginning mid-January and continuing through the year. If you missed my first invitation and would like to join, email lawadmit@uidaho.edu requesting another invitation be sent.
  13. Final Transcripts. Sometime before Orientation, we must receive official copies of transcripts from each school you have attended. No, the ones that came with your LSDAS report are not official. Yes, this includes those who attended the University of Idaho for undergraduate or graduate school.  May graduates, make sure the transcripts are final and reflect your degree. Transcripts should be sent to:

University of Idaho College of Law

        Office of Admissions

        PO BOX 442321

        Moscow, ID 83844-2321

If there are any changes in your plans to attend law school this fall, please let us know immediately. I can be reached at (208) 885-2300, or via e-mail at lawadmit@uidaho.edu. We look forward to meeting you in person and until then, have an enjoyable summer as you prepare to enter the challenging world of law.

    Sincerely,

    Stephen M. Perez, J.D.

    Director of Admissions
